Show Notes

Wow… this episode is a complex, deep, and fast dive into the biochemical soup that we’ve all been swimming in for the past few years. It considers the multiple variables that may be contributing to the increased incidence of neurological, and endocrine, disorders primarily showing up and being labelled as the “Mental Health Crisis”.

So a lot of it first is knowing that this is a biologic process, it's sort of gone down a road it went down because it could, but our bodies weren't friendly to that, they didn't recover like maybe they used to, because of all of those reasons. So I think that it is really an important thing,  first to give yourself a bit of a break, and know you're not making this up.”

Dr. Paul Anderson guides us through a crash course detailing how neuroinflammation can influence how we feel, and how our immune systems can influence the ways that our brains work.

“The thing that's often missed is the intersection where your brain takes its marching orders from many of those same chemicals that the immune system does”

Dr. Anderson shares his own work reviewing over 100 recent publications from the Neuro Psychiatric Research and what he has shockingly learned from this review, as well as what he shares when educating doctors.

“What the neuro psychiatric literature is saying, just with COVID is, it's exactly the same process as a blunt force trauma to your head. So it's a traumatic brain injury. But you don't have the so called benefit of having a trauma to remember that you've injured yourself, you just suddenly have a brain injury. And what they're literally saying is, it's exactly like being in a high speed car accident and crashing your skull. Having this, you know, immunologic base problem, and because we're used to associating trauma with it, we don't realize that the immunologic trauma is that bad”

He outlines how our bodies are wired to heal and return to an optimally functioning state, and how environmental influences like our diet, stress, and environmental toxins influence that set-point.

“We're supposed to eat food that has nutrients in it. And if we just look at the neurotransmitters in our brain, a majority of them have a base that comes from amino acids that come from the protein you eat, for example. And those of course have to be digested appropriately and get in your bloodstream, but then your nervous system will take a certain amount of them and literally make neurotransmitters to help balance our brain chemistry”

“Our bodies have this incredibly well developed, sort of, course correcting compass, where if we get out of balance and get sick, your body tries to find neutral again and get us back to healthy.”

He discusses how it is never one thing, and there is never only one answer, and how important it is to get the help that can make a world of difference.

Human nature is set up so that we believe bad things will just sort of naturally drift away at some point. But if you're really truly in a pattern of unhealth of any type, especially with the last few years, now's the time to do things to get your body back on the path to being healthy.”

I loved this conversation. It addresses the complexity and the layers that are required to examine when we are looking at a whole picture approach to our own health.  I will definitely be turning over some more “rocks” to be getting back on track! Thanks, Dr. A, never a dull moment when we have the opportunity to connect!
